BOARD MEETS COMMISIONER WESTERN’S EXECUTIVES

The Sigavou Kei Betoraurau Board met with Executives from the Commissioner Western’s Office (CWO) on Monday 17th July 2023 to exchange communication on plans for the District of Sabeto and also from the CWO.

CWO Executives enlightened the Board on planning information within the CWO for the next federal government financial year.

Natalau Village Headman Mr Nikola Vetawa was delighted he had the opportunity to seek an update from the Regional Administrator (Roko) regarding plans for the retainer walls for Natalau Village.

“I’m glad to have heard the Roko’s response despite the 7-year lapse since our initial request to the previous government. The continual flooding due to climate change and logging silts that is building up at the estuary has affected our people.

In Natalau village the river banks have eroded and continue to erode and we had sought help from the previous government through the Tikina Council to build retainer walls along the river bank on the southern side of our village.” Mr Vetawa said.

The Tikina will submit its strategy to the CWO for their review and advice in August before furthers submission and consultation will take place regarding government initiatives and capital projects that will be undertaken in Sabeto during the next financial year.
