Committee Secretary Peniasi Daveta has confirmed that preparations for the event is on track for the biggest fundraising event of the region.
“An official program will be finalised on Monday 24th July once we have confirmed every detail including guests and organisations that will be involved in making this event a fun-filled and meaningful experience to everyone attending” Peniasi said.
The targeted amount of one hundred and seventeen thousand dollars has been calculated from the pledges unanimously set by the Vanua elders. There are 39 Tokotokos or land owning units in Sabeto; which does not include the Tokotokos that have become extinct.
The organising committee is appealing to people of Betoraurau heritage to come forward and be part of the event.
“Everyone will gather in their stalls according to their Yavusa (Tribe) however the soli (funds) will be collected and credited to their Tokotoko (LOU). So if you identify as a Vasu of the Tokotoko Vanualevu from the Nabau clan (Mataqali) then you will come to the Yavusa o Conua stall where you can find members of your Tokotoko.
“It is sure to be a fun and memorable event for everyone. We are planning something too for kids who will come later after school so they too can relate to the event, learn and take back something meaningful.
“It will be for many of us young generations a time to connect with children and youths of other Tribes. Because our parents are well knitted with elders of their age, but we don’t have that same closeness and bond, and this event can rekindle the bond our ancestors shared” – Peniasi Daveta.
Logistical preparation like clean up and setting up of marquees will begin on Monday(24/07) next week with every installation ready by Thursday evening.
