Sabeto, Fiji – PKF Aliz Pacific, one of Fiji’s leading accounting firms, has announced a major philanthropic commitment of FJD $10,000 annually over the next five years to the District School of Sabeto, marking a significant investment in the future of education in the Betoraurau polity of the Ba Province.
This partnership is part of a broader and bold initiative led by the indigenous polity of Betoraurau to reform early childhood and primary education as a means to address an escalating education crisis in the province. The initiative aligns with the Vanua’s long-term vision to improve holistic academic performance across the region.
Recent data shared by the Ba Provincial Council Chairman, Ratu Meli Tora, reveals an alarming statistic: over 21,000 school-aged children in the province are currently not enrolled in school.
“A worrying trend that if not curtailed, will have far-reaching adverse effects in our polity, province, and even the nation,” said Pauliasi Natabe, Chairman of the Betoraurau Education Trust.
Recognising the urgent need for intervention, the Vanua of Betoraurau is rallying support from the business community in the western division.
“The polity of Betoraurau is tackling this crisis head-on, with the support of business communities. We welcome PKF Aliz Pacific as partners in this bold move to reverse the number of children left outside our education institutions,” Mr. Natabe added.
He further acknowledged the complexity of the issue:
“We recognise that there are varying reasons contributing to this crisis, and we take it upon ourselves as an indigenous polity to address it together, as one people. We are allocating budgets to support our education institutions and are sourcing partners like Aliz Pacific to support this noble initiative.”
The Vanua currently owns and operates one primary school with hostel amenities and three early childhood centres, servicing five villages. Plans are underway to construct a new primary school in the upper Sabeto Valley to cater to children in Korobebe and Navilawa villages.
“Education needs to be accessible, affordable, and relevant to the job market. We are developing our human capital through these investment initiatives, and we thank Aliz Pacific for generously considering the opportunity to join us as an education partner of Betoraurau.”
The donation by Aliz Pacific demonstrates a shared belief in the power of education to uplift and transform communities.
“The many children in our province who will benefit from this act of charity will be the legacy of this partnership between the Vanua of Betoraurau and Aliz Pacific. We sincerely thank Mr. Khan and the Board of Aliz Pacific for their trust in our education board and our Vanua to deliver quality education to the children of Betoraurau.”
“We look forward to building this relationship and taking it to greater heights over the coming years.”
